Description:

The Practical Special is a subtly modified version of the Practical Katana, made in response to requests for a quicker sword at the same economy price. The blade dimensions have been changed only slightly and the tsuba cutouts have been enlarged, and though this has resulted in a weight loss of only 3 oz., the difference in handling is very noticeable. The Practical will remain the standard for hard, regular cutting but for those needing a faster draw, multiple cut katana at an economy price, the Special is the answer.

The Gorin iaito is made of a special stainless steel that is much more durable than aluminum alloy Iaito. The un-edged blades are crafted in 400 series stainless steel with a simulated hamon and are fully tempered to withstand repeated drawing and cutting strokes.

Each blade features a bo-hi (groove), which both reduces blade weight and produces an audible feedback when cutting strokes are made correctly. The tsuka (handle) has white same (ray skin) with Matte Leather Ito (wrap).
The textured black saya (scabbard) has a black cotton sageo and silver shitodome. The Gorin has a black Musashi tsuba (guard), and brushed Fuchi & Kashira (handle fittings). It has silver Menuki (handle ornaments), Habaki (blade collar), Seppa (spacers).

Bamboo Mat Katana features a chu-kissaki blade of Hanwei’s own high-alloy HWS-2S steel, which combines impressive performance with a striking O-choji hamon. This steel is made in Hanwei’s new factory, with high-tech equipment, producing a very pure, advanced-metallurgy blade with excellent edge-holding capability and resilience.

The fittings feature a bamboo-themed black iron tsuba, textured in a bamboo mat design with a jointed bamboo rim and highlighted with gold-tipped bamboo leaves. The fuchi/kashira follow the same theme and the golden menuki feature a pair of sparrows. The saya is finished in high-gloss lacquer with horn fittings.

Description:

This particular sword is based on a graceful shobu zukuri style. Shobu means “iris leaf” and this blade shows a very traditional lighter, more elegant style of shobu than most robust Shobu Katana. The tsuka is wrapped with a black suede ito in katatemaki style (the so-called “battle wrap” or “one arm” style). The black saya has a simple stone texture.

Key Features:
– A Tough 5160 Through Hardened Shobu Zukuri sugata
– Traditional Construction
– Simple, elegant koshirae

The Raptor Series is the result of this cooperative effort.

The fittings are simple and based on the raptors, birds of prey. A gaudy, flashy mount for this sword would be out of place as these swords are meant for serious use. The sword is made of high performance unfolded 5160 steel, a high carbon steel renouned for its strength and durability. The blade has been heat treated in a non-traditional fashion to create a strong, durable modern blade. As a result the Raptors do not have a hamon.
This sword is non-traditional metallurgically but is made to be a modern, robust, strong, durable blade ideal for those new to Japanese Sword Arts. The blade’s geometry was also designed to be fully traditional in cross section but still robust to allow for higher performance under harder usage.
